Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

PRP uses growth factors from your own blood to stimulate the skin's repair mechanisms and support hair-follicle health. Because the material comes from you, there is no risk of allergic reaction.

About the treatment

A small volume of blood (about 10–20 ml) is drawn from your arm and spun in a sterile, closed-system centrifuge. The platelet-rich fraction — dense in growth factors such as PDGF, TGF-β and VEGF — is then re-injected into the scalp or skin. At MEDON we use only single-use, CE-marked PRP kits, never open-tube preparations.

Indications

  • Androgenetic hair loss (male and female pattern)
  • Post-inflammatory hair thinning
  • Facial skin rejuvenation — tone, texture, fine lines
  • Accelerated recovery after microneedling or fractional laser
  • Neck and décolleté rejuvenation

The session

  1. Consultation, including trichoscopy for hair cases
  2. Blood draw (10–20 ml, same as a routine test)
  3. Centrifugation in a closed sterile kit — about 10 minutes
  4. Topical anaesthetic (skin) or ring block (scalp)
  5. Micro-injection or microneedling-assisted delivery
  6. Cold compress and post-care instructions

Recovery & aftercare

You may have pinpoint redness and mild tenderness at injection sites for up to 24 hours. For scalp PRP, avoid washing your hair for 24 hours. For facial PRP, avoid makeup for 12 hours and use a gentle SPF. A typical protocol is 3 to 4 sessions spaced one month apart, then maintenance every 4–6 months.

Not suitable for

Active scalp or skin infection; blood dyscrasias and platelet disorders; anticoagulation that cannot be safely paused; active cancer; pregnancy; severe iron-deficiency anaemia. A short medical history and, where appropriate, blood test are required before a first session.
